Main Commencement Ceremony @ Comcast Center

Free Motorist Assistance Service is available including jumpstarts, lock release, tire changes and gasoline transport from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 and again from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 20. The service is on-campus only. Call (301) 314-4227 or (240) 216-3181 for service.
 
Shuttle-UM provides Paratransit Service - All Commencement shuttles are ADA-accessible. In addition, limited curb-to-curb service is available on campus to those with special transportation needs on a first-come, first-served basis. Service may be requested by calling (301) 314-2255, selecting option 3, then pressing 1.

College Park Metro Rail/Direct Shuttle to Comcast Center
Direct and continuous shuttle service is available from the College Park Metro Station to the Main Ceremony at Comcast Center. Return service from Comcast Center and the Stamp Student Union to the College Park Metro Station continues all day. UM Shuttle service is free.

Follow police direction at all times. You may not exit campus the way you entered. All campus roads lead to University Blvd. (Route 193), Baltimore Avenue (U.S. Route 1), and the Beltway (I-495). Directional signage leading off campus or to departmental ceremonies will be posted for outgoing traffic.

To alleviate potential traffic delays following the main ceremony at Comcast Center, please consider the following options:
  • If you choose to RIDE SHUTTLE from Comcast Center: (Recommended)

    • Leave your car parked at Comcast Center. Marked shuttles will take you directly to your departmental ceremony and bring you back to Comcast Center. Police and parking attendants will favor shuttles in traffic.

    • Multiple marked shuttles will stage in Lot PP*. It is located on the south side of Comcast Center by the main entrance steps. Directly following the main ceremony, shuttles will begin running loops to the departmental ceremonies located around campus.

    From Lot PP*:

    • Shuttles will run directly to the Reckord Armory and the Memorial Chapel. Shuttles will bring you back to Comcast Center following your departmental ceremony.

    • Shuttles will run directly to the Stamp Student Union and Cole Student Activities Building. Shuttles will bring you back to Comcast Center following your departmental ceremony.

    • Shuttles will run directly to Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Shuttles will bring you back to Comcast Center following your departmental ceremony.

  • If you choose to PARK DIRECTLY at your departmental ceremony location:

    • Shuttle service will be available to the main ceremony at Comcast Center in the morning and back to your car and departmental ceremony in the afternoon.

    • College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (Comcast Center) should park directly at Comcast Center. The departmental ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. Food, drinks and plenty of photo opportunities are available.

    • Criminology and Criminal Justice (Reckord Armory) should park in Regents Drive Garage in the morning and take shuttles to Comcast Center and back to departmental locations. Limited parking is available in Lots C1 and C2 by the Armory.

    • Art History and Public Policy (Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center) should park in Stadium Drive Garage in the morning and take shuttles to Comcast Center and back to departmental locations.

    • Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; and Jewish Studies (Stamp Union) should park in Union Lane Garage in the morning and take shuttles to Comcast Center and back to departmental locations.

    • Economics (Cole Student Activities Building) should park in Lot 1 in the morning and take shuttles to Comcast Center and back to departmental locations.

    • African American Studies, Anthropology and Geography (Memorial Chapel) should park in Regents Drive Garage in the morning and take shuttles to Comcast Center and back to departmental locations.

  • If you choose to DRIVE from Comcast Center:

    • MOST traffic exits campus to University Blvd (Route 193) via Paint Branch Drive. Directional signs will be posted on Paint Branch Drive exiting to University Blvd (Route 193). Please follow police direction at all times. You may not exit campus the way you entered. All campus roads lead to University Blvd. (Route 193), Baltimore Avenue (U.S. Route 1), and the Beltway (I-495).

    • Art History and Public Policy (Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center); Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and Jewish Studies (Stamp Student Union); and Economics (Cole Student Activities Building) should exit Comcast Center to University Blvd (Route 193 West), then re-enter campus on Stadium Drive. From Stadium Drive, parking is available in Stadium Drive Garage, Lot 1 and Union Lane Garage. Police are controlling the lights to favor outgoing traffic. Driving through campus to departmental ceremonies will cause delays.
