welcome

Welcome to the University of Maryland commencement website!

Congratulations to the class of 2014! The University of Maryland welcomes you to our December 2014 Commencement website, where graduates, family members and the university community may find information about the ceremonies. These events are not only a celebration of the graduating students' accomplishments at the University of Maryland, but also an occasion to acknowledge our joint enthusiasm for their future endeavors. The university recognizes that commencement is a milestone in our graduates' lives and, as such, we strive to ensure that everyone enjoys their experience. The campus-wide ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, December 20, and the individual college or school ceremonies will occur at various times on Sunday, December 21. The colleges and schools will contact graduating students with specific information pertaining to the individual ceremonies. Contact the college or school directly for more information.

The university is pleased to provide a real-time stream of the campus-wide ceremony on the commencement website beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, December 20.

The ceremony will also be cablecast on UMTV in Prince George's and Montgomery counties. On-campus viewers can watch UMTV on channel 38. Off-campus viewers should check their local listings for UMTV.

Campus-wide Commencement Ceremony

This December the campus-wide ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 20, at 7p.m. in the Xfinity Center. The procession of students begins promptly at 6:40 p.m. The campus-wide commencement ceremony represents the culmination of a student's academic career at the University of Maryland. Unlike the individual college or school ceremonies, it is an opportunity for the president to congratulate the graduates as a group. Although graduates do not walk across the stage in the campus-wide ceremony, it is in this ceremony that the degrees are officially conferred. At the end of the ceremony, the graduates will turn their tassels from the right to the left, symbolizing the transition from student to alumnus. The university encourages graduates, their family and friends to attend this approximately 90-minute evening event marking the beginning of the two-day commencement celebration.
