Welcome from the Provost
Commencement is a special time of celebration for the university community. It is a long-standing rite of passage that marks the culmination of our labor throughout the year. It is a time when students, along with the faculty who taught them, the parents who supported them, the staff who guided them, and the friends who encouraged them can be proud of their achievements and share in the gratifying feeling that accomplishment brings. The unique experience of commencement is enhanced for students and their parents by the presence of faculty, who represent the university's renowned talent, scholarly expertise and commitment to its students. The ceremony itself is enriched by the faculty's colorful and distinctive regalia, symbolizing the diversity of disciplines and educational backgrounds in our university community.
With my heartfelt gratitude for all you have done to bring us to this exciting point in the academic year, I invite every faculty member, as well as all graduating students and their family and friends, to come and be a part of this year's commencement ceremonies.
Congratulations to the Class of 2009!
